About Coach

My journey in health and fitness began amidst a childhood shaped by fast food, hefty home-cooked meals, and playing sports.  Because of my hefty size and ability to play well in sports, I earned the playful moniker "Big Lou" a name that has since transformed into the revered title of “Coach Lou”.

I graduated with a degree in Kinesiology and Physical Ed. from Long Beach State University.  My professional journey took off in 2001 when I became the inaugural Strength and Conditioning Coach at Los Angeles Southwest Junior College for two seasons.  I orchestrated comprehensive team workouts, curated sports-specific programs, and authored the institution's first strength and conditioning manual.

Now, with more than 20 years of coaching experience, I help adults and young athletes reach their sports and fitness goals.  For those who are just starting, I help them learn to trust the process, trust their strengths, and embrace fitness as a lifestyle.

Turning Point

For me, my pivotal moment came when I faced the Goliath of my life: internal doubt.  As a fitness professional with over 20 years of experience, my journey began in the shadow of towering doubts. Doubts about my ability to lose weight, help others reach their goals, and dream big.

The moment of reckoning came in a quiet realization: the only thing holding me back was me. My enemy wasn't an external force, but the voice inside me that said, "You can't." That's when I decided to prove to myself, "I can."

I tackled this enemy head-on by embracing failure as a stepping stone, not a setback.  I dedicated myself to the study of nutrition and fitness, not just as disciplines but as catalysts for transformation—both for myself and for others. Over the next several years, I lost over 100lbs.
Through relentless perseverance, I turned my doubts into determination, transforming the whispers of "You can't" into "I will, and I can." It taught me the power of resilience, the importance of self-belief, and the unbreakable spirit of a true fighter.

Motivation & Passion

My coaching philosophy is to empower men and women to reclaim their health and vitality.  I believe that true strength, endurance, and wellness are not just the outcomes of training but the integration of mindfulness nutrition, and fitness. My goal is to create an environment where anyone working with RG FITNESS feels safe, and supported, and gets stronger mentally and physically in the process.
